In an ideal world, we’d all have weekly blowouts and monthly facials but we’re horse riders so let’s keep it real. I know for me, if it’s not about the money, it’s most definitely about the time and when I have a horse in work, between business, family and trying to maintain some semblance of a social life, my situation can usually be described as ‘hamster on a wheel’.
Having said all of that, I don’t like to give up on my appearance completely and over time, I’ve settled on a few game changing products that fit perfectly into my time poor equestrian lifestyle. I wanted to share them with you here because in this brave new world of affiliate links, influencers, beauty bloggers and sponsored posts I thought I would do something utterly WILD and just share some products I love, that I purchase with my own actual money and use until they’re finished. Here goes!
There is literally nothing I adore more in the world than leaving my phone in the tack room and working my horse first thing in the morning. Starting the day riding dressage, completely unplugged always feels like such a luxury, but post ride hair? No thank you.
For me, a good dry shampoo is an absolute essential because there’s nothing worse than worrying about your sweaty hair on the way into the office. Unfortunately, I also have this (maybe/maybe not) irrational fear of an aerosol can exploding in my hot car which means that so many of the dry shampoos on the market are completely out for me. Enter the Nourish Dry Shampoo Powder from Beauty Dust Co.
This dry shampoo comes in a non-aerosol pump, is fragrance free and is the perfect size to stow in your handbag for helmet hair emergencies. I love everything from this all natural, New Zealand start up and all of their products are sulphate free, paraben free, phthalate free, petrochemical free and cruelty free.
If you work full time with horses or just love competing, fair weather riding really isn’t an option and all those hours out in the elements can start to take its toll! I gifted a pack of these game changing masks to a girlfriend who in the lead up to her birthday, was lamenting the fact that she couldn’t seem to get take a minute away from her thoroughbred agistment business for anything, let alone a facial.
Whilst there’s nothing lovelier than a nice relaxing facial, when that is just not going to happen, wash your face, put on one of these sheet masks and lie down for five minutes. Trust me, they are the business.
The successful show rider, Stephanie Barrington put me on to this one. Full disclosure, if given the choice I will always ride sans makeup but if I’m riding in the afternoon, often it’s already a done deal. Also, I do tend to wear makeup when I compete. So, if you want to ride without makeup sliding down your face, this setting spray works literal miracles.
